Link Building with the Moving Man Method by Backlinko.com

$

0

Although the search landscape is changing at a steady pace, back links remain one of the main indicators to all the search engines of quality content.  It stands to reason that if a lot of blogs and websites are linking to the same content, that the content must be worthwhile.

The Moving Man Method  (video below) was developed by Brian Dean of Backlinko.com.  One of the great things about Brian is he doesn’t talk simply to talk.  He consistently delivers high quality content that helps his followers and clients grow their business by increasing web traffic.  I encourage you to visit the Backlinko YouTube channel which provides a number of great videos on link building all of which provide actionable strategies to increase site traffic and backlinks.

Advanced SEO Strategy That Gets Results

It’s no secret that more white hat links = more search engine traffic.  And more traffic means more leads and sales for you.

But the question is:  how do you get links that are actually work? Or more importantly: how do you get backlinks that won’t penalize your site?

Well that’s EXACTLY what I share with you in this video.

You’ll learn:

  • The 3-step process that land you authority links from sites in your industry (I call this technique “The Moving Man Method”). You can use this SEO technique for any business, but it works especially well for ecommerce SEO.
  • How you can leverage closed businesses like Borders Books, BlockBuster Video and for traffic to your site.
The exact word-for-word scripts that you can use to convince site owners and bloggers to link to your site.
  • OK, let’s go over the steps in this advanced SEO strategy.

First, you need to find popular resources on the web that aren’t around anymore…or are so severely out of date that they’re essentially useless.

For example, let’s say you run an ecommerce site that sells video games. Then Blockbuster’s site — which has thousands of links still pointing to it — would be an ideal site to find.

If you’re stuck, here are some search strings you can use in Google:

  1. keyword + out of business
  2. keyword + chapter 11
  3. keyword + “service no longer available”

Next, you want to check and make sure that these resources have quality links pointing to them. This is important.

You can quickly check the page’s links using a program like Open Site Explorer, Majestic SEO or Ahrefs. I prefer Ahrefs but they all work pretty well.

Finally, let the person know about their outdated backlink…and suggest that they replace it with yours.

Boom! You just got yourself some quality, contextual links.

Hit the Bullseye with RSS Feeds

The content below is an RSS feed widget from feed.mickle.com.  They have some pretty cool tools.  RSS feeds are great for SEO as well as link building because they are do-follow links and they update automatically so you only have to insert the feed onto a web page or sidebar widget one time.  After you’ve read this article, please be sure to check out the What is SEO Article Writing post.

RSS feeds are quickly becoming the method of choice for webmasters and bloggers that curate content to post on their sites or to share with followers and readers.  The good news is RSS feeds aren’t difficult to create and very easy to distribute.

Benefits of Promoting Your Business’s RSS feed

In addition, if you’re a webmaster or business owner, RSS feeds have some important benefits for you. By creating an RSS feed for your content and encouraging visitors to subscribe, you allow those who stumble on your website to become regular readers who will continue to engage with your content and your brand.

Syndicating an RSS feed also allows your content to be promoted on other blogs and websites and even on news outlets. There are numerous communities, social bookmarking websites and RSS directories where you can submit your RSS feed and have your new headlines sent out to a wider audience. This type of promotion can lead to an influx of new targeted visitors and also builds quality backlinks to your website, which can improve your search engine rankings.

All in all, RSS is a technology that can bring numerous benefits to you as both a consumer and as a provider of content. It can help you navigate through the masses of online articles without succumbing to information overload, as well as provide a channel for you to market your own content to a new audience.

Does Your Content Start a Conversation?

The content below was written by Shana Starr who is a managing partner at LFPR and an author at Entrepreneur.com.  I curated her article from the Entrepreneur.com website this morning because it provides great insight into how to write content that gets people talking, or as they say nowadays, content that creates a buzz in social media circles.

As SEO content producers we always think about getting an article to rank well instead of creating content that’s not only shareable, but that gets people excited enough to discuss the topic at length.  If you’re a smart writer, you naturally want to craft an article that’s evergreen.  Shana’s first writing tip is to produce content that’s timely which isn’t necessarily evergreen, but it can be with a little thought and hard work.

1. Is your content timely?

Ask yourself if there are certain times throughout the year that your advice and expertise would be most beneficial to others. If so, make sure you prepare your content ahead of time and talk about why your expertise matters now. If you are an expert in shipping or logistics, you will want to talk about preparing for inventory issues that occur during the holidays. If you are a marketing expert, you will touch on how to market to customers during the holidays — how to turn those holiday shoppers into year-round clientele.

This also ties into trends and making sure you are talking about things that are making news today and tomorrow, not yesterday. As an example, Google “time saving apps” and you will see about seven pages of articles on the subject, but you will only read the latest and newest because these are the most up-to-date thoughts and products and frankly, who has time to read outdated news?

2. Is what you are offering helpful?

Advice goes a long way in creating content that is shareable and of interest. When you are writing content about a certain topic, give very direct points on why it matters and how others can learn from it. If you are writing something for a business audience, make sure it has a business focus. If it is for entrepreneurs, make sure the points would appeal to someone starting a business.

Take the time to identify your desired audience and, if looking for an editor to use your content, make sure your content aligns with the publication’s audience before you get started. We all want to create content that elicits comments, shares, likes and retweets, so don’t forget this important step when creating genuine advice that people will appreciate.

3. Did you consider editorial guidelines and content that would appeal to an editor?

Often content creators don’t consider that ultimately an editor has to be interested in your content to get pick-up in the media. Unless the expert is famous, content that is really personal or inside information that only applies to them won’t be of interest to an editor. In the PR world, we call this “too inside.” It is information that really only matters to you and comes off more like a blog or commentary than something that is useful to a wider audience. By creating content that appeals to a wider audience, you are betting that an editor will want to share your work with their audience, giving you a positive media response.

The phrase “content creation” even has a Wiki page to help experts identify exactly what it is and who it appeals to. What they don’t talk about is how to make it matter to both an editor and to the audience. By using these three tips in your content, it will help you, the expert, share what you do well with an audience that can help grow you and your business.

Content Marketing History

The history of content marketing can be traced to the early days of commerce.  As soon as money became the main trading tool businessmen began searching for ways to reach the public.  The video below was created by the Content Marketing Institute which is an extremely popular destination for both new and experienced content creators and marketing professionals.  If you haven’t visited the Institute’s blog I strongly suggest you visit the site as soon as you’ve viewed the video below.

Immediately following the video on the history of content marketing, there’s a feed which leads to the Search Engine Land website.  I can’t write about the content after the video because it’s an RSS feed and it’ll be different tomorrow, and the day after that, etc.  You will learn a lot from the writers and SEO professionals on the Search Engine Land website if you’re interested in learning how to increase your website’s search engine rankings.

Today’s business landscape is a lot different today than it was 50 to 100 years ago, but the concept remains the same.  We want to sell our products or services to as many people as possible and to be able to succeed today you should create a long list of keywords that closely match your offering.  Try to find the key phrases that your potential costumers use on the search engine and, if your keywords aren’t ultra competitive, you should be able to rank a blog or website within 3 to 4 months.  I’ve accomplished that several times so I know it’s possible and about how long it takes to get on Google’s first page.  How did I do it?  Read the next few paragraphs which were curated from a blog post entitled, 27 Detailed Ways to Generate New Blog Post Ideas.

Good Old-Fashioned Keyword Research

Keyword research is arguably the original way to come up with topic ideas for the web. I personally use SEMrush as my number one tool to perform keyword research. I also have a paid subscription to Spyfu. If you’re on a tight budget, Keywordtool.io and the Google Keyword Planner are free tool options for the task. If you’re wondering why I pay for SEMrush and Spyfu when free alternatives are available, it’s because I find their features more in-depth and their data more reliable.

Most of my frequent readers already know how to do standard keyword research, but if you’re new to the concept of keyword research, you’ll find an excellent – and free – email training course on keyword research available from Authority Labs here.

Find the Most Popular Content Surrounding a General Keyword and Upcycle It

Upcycling is a common term used by people who like making DIY items. Another way some people put it is taking something from trash to treasure. The official definition of upcycling is to “reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original.”

I like to upcycle content. That means finding old, once awesome content, identifying a new angle for it, writing fresh and updated content surrounding it, and making the overall end product more useful and comprehensive.

I used to recommend Buzzsumo overall for this task, but I’ve since switched to recommending Ahrefs for it if your primary focus with regard to creating content is SEO. Both services cost the same for their lowest plan ($99) but Ahrefs has a ton of additional features – like link research tools – that Buzzsumo does not. However, if your primary metrics are social metrics, then you might want to opt for Buzzsumo because Ahrefs Twitter data is not accurate – at all, which means I’m wary of their other social metrics as well. But from an overall online marketing standpoint, I find Ahrefs is a better bang for the buck for those on a budget.

Using Ahrefs for Keyword Research

Type any keyword into the search bar on Ahrefs. The resulting screen will show you the content Ahrefs knows about that includes the keyword. You can filter the results in tons of ways – referring domains, social shares by network, etc. You can also filter the results to limit them to specific criteria – such as limiting the results to posts that are in English, have a domain rating of less than 60 and have a referring domain count of over 30.

I restrict the search to English for obvious reasons. I limit the domain rating to less than 60 to weed out extreme authority sites which can – and sometimes do – post total crap that takes off solely because of where it was published and not because the content was of any merit. I restrict the referring domain count to 30 and above because I’m looking for posts that attracted a lot of links. Clicking Details next to the individual results will show me the specific backlinks that post has obtained.

“The History of Content Marketing from the Content Marketing Institute. Content marketing is not new. Brands have been telling stories to attract and retain customers for hundreds of years. The difference today is that the barriers to entry (content acceptance, talent and technology) no longer exist for brands to get into the publishing arena.”

Cloudup Images Embedded

This is a collection of images that are hosted on my Cloudup.com account.  Cloudup is a free image hosting service that’s pretty easy to use, but unless you upgrade, all your content is secured.  You can still share your content like I’m doing here, but it is not indexed by the search engines which isn’t too good for SEO purposes if you want your images to show up on the SERPs.

At any rate, I visit the Cloudup platform once in a while, when I remember I have content hosted there.   Today I felt like testing the platform to investigate how difficult it is to embed content hosted on the platform.  It’s not too hard!

Here are the URLs to the images embedded above.  Feel free to use the content as you wish as I do not issue a copyright on most of the images I create.  What’s the point in creating content if you cannot share it?

Instagram Images Embedded

I just read that we can embed our Instagram images simply by pasting the user link into its own line in the WordPress editor.  Well, I just pasted the link below and I’m waiting to see if it works.  It didn’t work the way I thought it would.  Apparently it doesn’t work on a URL like this:  https://www.instagram.com/ricoramiro2/ it has to be a specific image or page URL that looks like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BE5XWJ9Gaei/

That’s what the instructions recommended, but I had to try pasting my profile URL to see it it would work.  🙂

The first image below is embedded using the Instagram embed function while the second image is embedded using a naked URL (the second URL above).  It’s still fun!  I don’t post as much as I should on Instagram as I have a lot of images on a smartphone.  I created at least 8 to 10 images a week and I may begin posting most of that content on Instagram now that I know how easy it is to post the content on this SEO Content Writer blog.

Images are a Great Link Building Tool and Good for the Overall SEO of a Blog

As the author of this blog, I guess I can do whatever I want!  My hesitance in posting too many images has to do more with the images slowing the loading of the site’s pages, but I’ve been using an image hosting platform called postimage.org.  It’s super fast and as soon as an image is uploaded, the user is presented with several links to post on a website or forum or with a direct link to share on social media platforms.

At any rate, images are great content for link building and SEO as people enjoy linking to great images and infographics.  Until next time my friends.  Take care.

Fotothing.com Photo Sharing Platform Review

$

I just joined a photo sharing site named fotothing.com.  It seems to be a pretty cool website with a lot of members.  When you join the site you’re restricted from performing certain tasks until you verify your email address.

The site administrators also require that you post at least 10 images before you can create a forum thread.  The forum is extremely busy and I noticed a little bit of blatant spam.  I viewed at least two profiles both of which inserted about five links in a forum thread.  The posts didn’t go unnoticed as someone asked the spammers to get off the site, but the content with the links remained on the thread.

Embeded below is my profile page on fotothing.com.  It didn’t take too long to set up my profile page.  I tried to insert a hyperlink on my profile but it was stripped away.  I used Original Press Releases, but as soon as I clicked on the update profile button, the only thing that remained was the Original Press Releases name.  The hyper-text link disappeared.  The profile page does accept a raw URL but it’s not a clickable link which is something I am not too fond of!

Keep & Share Content Sharing and Publishing

keep-and-share-document-sharing-platformKeep & Share is a great platform to host content for SEO and for other purposes such as collaboration on team projects or family get-togethers.  The site is indexed by Google, and probably the other search engines as well so whatever type of document you post on the site, it’ll provide you with back links from a trusted website.

In fact, I stumbled upon Keep & Share while performing research on Google.  I don’t remember what I was researching, but I remember a document about wooden chairs was in the number one spot of the SERP and it intrigued me so much, I immediately joined the site, then began learning how to use the platform’s many different apps.

Keep & Share Offers No-Follow Links

You should be aware that the Keep & Share platform provides ‘no-follow’ links which is a good thing because we’re supposed to maintain a mixture of different types of back links, so it fits in nicely with anyone’s back link profile.  The site is also a social media platform as users are able to meet other members of the site and share content and conversation with co-workers or family members.  I’ve been using it to post SEO content and it’s been serving me well.

The managers of the site are not going to interfere with you because you’re posting content with links.  Personally, I don’t insert more than 1 or 2 links in my documents as anymore than that will look spammy to the search engines and that’s who we’re supposed to watch out for.  The Internet was founded on the idea of providing links to other documents online for research and educational purposes so keep the links down to a minimum and you shouldn’t have any problems.

Image Screenshot of a Review of KeepandShare.com

What follows are different reviews of Keep & Share.  I like the site so I’m a biased and couldn’t give a legitimate review.  Below you’ll find an image with a few reviews and after that, a video, so you’ll be able to decide if the site is simply trying to scam users or if it is on the upside.

keep_and_share_review2

The content below is an embed of my ‘My Documents’ folder.  I originally wanted to test the embed feature of the website, but it turned out to be what you’re reading now.  That’s okay.  I think I like writing review blog posts as it provides a service to others seeking information on a particular website.

Video Review of KeepandShare.com

In the video below, you’ll see how Keep and Share helps users in managing projects online. When you’re able to navigate the site quickly, you’ll be able easily create the following:

  • Projects
  • Tasks
  • To-Do List
  • Sub modules
  • Calendars

You can share your project with team members or anyone you want to.  Sharing is totally secure and as easy as adding the email addresses of people you want to join a project.  Creating projects or assigning a task on specific dates is easy with many available predefined modules which speed up the task creation process. The interface provided by Keep and Share is awesome.

You can also bookmark interesting things and share them with your team mates.
In overall Keep&Share is very helpful and eases your requirements of collaborating things online.

The Power of Social Media and the Internet Continues to Grow and Expand

Social Media and the Internet

I knew that social media was changing our lives, albeit one day at time. And the Internet certainly changed my life about six years ago when I became self-employed by launching several businesses online. Both the ‘Net and social media have also broadened my knowledge on SEO, content marketing and Internet marketing in general.

Those of us that use the Internet now have access to almost any type of information we want and we can communicate with friends and family members who live across the country or on the other side of the world. I have a sister that lives in Slovakia. She works there as an English teacher and the only time I communicate with her is via Facebook. I also use FB to communicate with my mom and a my aunts and cousins which are scattered throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

Science & Social: The Internet’s New Power Couple

The content after this paragraph was written by Mike Wu who is classified as a Lithium Guru on the Lithium forum. I thought it was so good I decided to post a portion of the content on this blog.

We can all finally agree that social is a powerful tool for brands, right? If so, why are we treating it like a traditional media channel?

Brands are just scratching the surface with positive results due to the natural amplification of social interactions. Brands will not realize the full potential of social without understanding the ‘science.’

This session will cover how brands can reach & acquire customers using both the soft science (anthropology, sociology, etc.) as well as the hard science (machine learning, data etc.).

With both hard and soft science, brands can reach and acquire customers effectively, wherever they may be on social media.
